INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 8 , 2016) - The Powerball jackpot sits at $800 million on Friday evening. Hoosiers are lining up at stores across the state hoping to get their hands on the winning ticket.

“Everybody is excited and talking about it, hoping that it gets hit in Indiana," said Betsy Gutirrez with Hoosier Lottery. They handed out 600 free tickets at different locations throughout Central Indiana on Friday. The tickets give people a chance at scoring the largest lottery prize ever in North America.

A Hoosier win would be the 39th jackpot winner for the state in Hoosier Lottery's history. Lottery ticket sales continue through Saturday. Lines filled up at convenience stores in the city.

People FOX59 talked to each had their own ideas of what they would do with the money. The most common response was sharing the prize with family. Others said the cash is more than anyone can imagine having at one time.

“That much money is more than most any of us have had in our pockets so you would have to really think about what you want to do with it. I have all I need now, it’s just what I would want," said one lottery player.

Hoosier Lottery wants to remind everyone to play responsibly. The deadline to buy tickets in Indiana is 9:58 p.m. The drawing is Saturday at 10:59 p.m. on FOX59.
