INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (January 2, 2015) – A northwest side family escaped a house fire Friday morning when they heard the smoke alarms sounding at 2:30 a.m.

Three adults, one child and the family dog made it out safely while the fire burned in the basement in the 8600 block of Green Braes S Dr. just west of the Eagle Creek Reservoir.

The Pike Township Fire Department called in help from Wayne Township, Brownsburg and Zionsville because the neighborhood does not have fire hydrants. They had to bring in water to fight the fire.

Crews were able to put out the fire fairly quickly and are still working to find the cause.

No firefighters were hurt.
