SPEEDWAY, Ind. (June 12, 2016) — Hundreds of people spent 24 hours in the heat walking and camping out for the annual Relay for Life event at Leonard Park.

About 500 people helped raise thousands of dollars for American Cancer Society programs and research.

“To see all these people supporting survivors and supporting the research and goals of the cancer society, it’s just heartwarming, it makes you feel so good, like you’re not in this alone, ” said breast cancer survivor Connie Popcheff.

Organizers had a goal of raising $90,000 dollars in Speedway.

Across the county, there are about 5,300 Relay for Life events.
