Indiana Black Expo is celebrating a safe and successful 43rd Summer Celebration this year.

The keys to this year’s success were three fold. IBE worked closely with police to make sure IBE events and the downtown area was safe for everyone. They also worked with the faith-based groups such as the 10 Point Coalition who also worked with police inside the convention center and downtown.

IBE focused this year’s Summer Celebration on families an geared events to more specifically.

Finally, social media helped them increase attendance at IBE events and workshops.

“It was excellent to have such great support from the entire police community and from the 10 Point Coalition and from volunteers. It was incredible, but I think so much of the credit goes directly to the tens of thousands of people who just came to the event in the right frame of mind,” said Vernon Williams with IBE.

“It was phenomenal because we wanted to get the sense of family and we achieved that,” said Mamie Ware, with IBE.

The success of Summer Celebration is giving IBE more momentum for the the group’s next big event, the Circle City Classic, which will be held on Oct. 12.
