BROWN COUNTY, Ind.– An iconic statue in Brown County was beheaded earlier this month.
The statue is known as “Stone Head” and has been in Brown County since before the Civil War. It was carved by an early Indiana settler named Henry Cross.
At some point in the last month, its head was lopped off and is now missing, according to our partners at the IndyStar. The statue provides directions to nearby towns via inscriptions on its base.
This isn’t the first time vandals have hit it. In the 70s, the entire thing was stolen. Months later, it was found in an Indianapolis apartment. This decapitation is one of three recent acts of vandalism in the county.
Police are investigating but do not belive the incidents are connected. No arrests have been made.
