Indianapolis firefighters battle two separate fires, three people displaced

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 22, 2015) – Indianapolis Fire Department battled a multiple alarm fire early Saturday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to the 3600 block of N. Illinois St. just before 2:30 a.m..

The three story apartment building was showing heavy smoke and fire when they arrived. Authorities sounded the second alarm at 3:30 a.m.

Firefighters finally got the fire under control just before 4:00 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but firefighters had to assist one resident after he went back in to get his computer keyboard.

Three occupants were displaced after the fire. The fire chief estimated the damage to be around $110,000.

Then just 30 minutes later IFD was dispatched to a vacant home at 929 N. Bancroft St. Firefighters arrived just after 4:30 a.m. and found smoke showing.

This fire took less than 10 minutes to put out. No injuries were reported.

The fire chief estimated the damage to be around $20,000.

IFD is still investigating what started each fire.
