IMPD arrest man after child is assaulted with sledgehammer

IMPD detectives have arrested a man they say hit an 8-year-old boy in the head with a sledgehammer.

The assault on the child happened Wednesday night during an altercation in the 2700 block of Priscilla Avenue.

Police arrested 38-year-old Alfred Amos on two charges of aggravated battery, both of which are felonies.

Amos is accused of hitting the 8-year-old boy in the head with the hammer as well as also injuring a 12-year-old.

Both were taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health for their injuries.

The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition and the female victim was treated for her injuries and released.
