IMPD investigates first homicide of 2013

Homicide detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the first death of the New Year Tuesday.

Officers responded to the 3300 block of W. 9th Street on the city’s near west side at approximately 5:21 a.m.   When they arrived, they discovered the residence’s back door was open and an unidentified male lying face down on the floor.

Police searched the home for other victims or possible suspects but did not locate anyone else inside.

According to a detective on the scene, it appeared the victim opened the back door and then was shot. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
