INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 23, 2015) – An IMPD detective says he’s never seen anything like what happened at an east side adult bookstore early Friday morning.

Police say a disgruntled customer came into the store, said one word, then started firing at the female clerk that kicked him out earlier in the night. She is in the hospital and he is on the loose. Police have not released what that one word was.

It happened around 2 a.m. at the Annex Adult Store at 38th and Shadeland.

According to IMPD, a man was being “unruly” toward workers and customers. He was with another man. Both men were asked to leave. They refused until the workers started to dial 911. Police believe the man was alone when he returned and opened fire.

The woman was shot twice in the legs and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say it was caught on surveillance cameras and they’re reviewing those tapes. They released photos of the suspect on Friday afternoon. They believe the man is in his early 30s. He was wearing a brown shirt, black hoodie and tan pants at the time of the shooting.

Call IMPD or Crime Stoppers if you know anything that could help.

There was a second employee in the store at the time of the shooting and that person was not hurt.

Police don’t believe the victim and the shooter know each other.
