IMPD investigating 2-year-old shot on near north side, believed to be accidental

INDIANAPOLIS — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are on the scene of a person shot on the city’s near north side.

IMPD said officers responded to the 3300 block of North Meridian Street around 4:52 p.m.

According to police, a 2 -year-old child is at Riley Hospital in serious but stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the arm.

Police are investigating how it happened, but believe the toddler accidentally shot themselves after finding a gun.

IMPD said there was another person in the apartment at the time, as well as some people who left the apartment before police arrived.
