Suspect charged with officer Renn’s murder, death penalty being considered

A Metro Police officer was rushed in critical condition to Eskenazi Hospital at 9:30 Saturday night after a shootout on the city’s east side.  He later passed away.

The officer, identified as Perry Renn, was responding to a report of shots fired at East 34th Street and Forest Manor Avenue.

The officer exchanged gunfire with an armed suspect and wounded his assailant.

IMPD’s Emergency Response Group responded to the scene of the shooting as other IMPD officers blocked off intersections along the ambulance’s route to Eskenazi Hospital.

Officer Renn is identified as a veteran patrolman on the east side of Indianapolis.

The suspect was in critical condition at Eskenazi.
