INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --Police say they are "fairly certain" a man found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound is the suspect wanted in connection with a fatal west side shooting.

Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Addison Street around 9:30 a.m. on a report of shots fired. Officers found a female victim, later identified as Brittany Bailey, 27, fatally shot in the alley.

Police believe this is a domestic violence situation, and they were searching for her husband, Giovanni Bailey, 34.

Just after noon, a man was found dead in the 400 block of Warmen Avenue of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police believe the man is Bailey but have not been able to officially identify him. Bailey's red Dodge Charger was found near the scene.

A note was found on the windshield of the car. Police say Bailey may have made comments on social media about being "sorry."

Giovani Bailey's family members said they were angry and upset with how the day ended. They believe the couple may have been separating. Giovanni was recently sentenced for felony crimes in Vigo County.

“She was too good for him. Her heart was too strong for him and for him to take her life like that and then take his own life," said one family member.

Police said the murder suicide is a tragic reminder of what can go wrong in a domestic violence case.

“This is a worst case scenario for a domestic violence situation. It always starts very minor with maybe a push or s shove and then it escalates from there as the relationship goes on and it can end up in a homicide like this case which is very unfortunate," said IMPD Officer Jim Gillespie.
