LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. – A firefighter with the Perry Township Fire Department in Lawrence County is being charged with arson after officers say he started several fires.

Authorities received information that firefighter Adam Selbee may be a possible suspect in the rash of fires, including five structures and three hay bales.

In several of the fires, officers say Selbee was either the person to report the fire or the first firefighter to arrive to the scene.

A search warrant was obtained to place a tracking device on Selbee’s vehicle.

On Oct. 13, Selbee was arrested. During an interview with officers, he reportedly admitted to lighting three vacant structures and multiple hay bales on fire, “because he enjoyed responding” to them as a firefighter.

One of the structures was the old Springville Gym. Officers say Selbee told them he poured a cup of gasoline into the building’s kitchen area and set it on fire on July 19. As a result, the gym was destroyed.

Officers say Selbee didn’t have permission to enter or set fire to any of the structures.
