INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 9, 2015) - An Indianapolis military family is asking for help after their travel trailer was stolen from a rented lot in Lawrence.
Sgt. First Class Nathan Press and his family were relocated to Indianapolis last year. Press is a medical army recruiter. He and his wife, Michelle, purchased a travel and camping trailer to help with the move. "It's great to just drive it down the road, stop when we want to, don’t have to pay for a hotel room so we use it for sleeping, eating," Sgt. First Class Press says. "Between the two of us, we’ve got two kids, so getting this travel trailer is something we wanted to invest in," Michelle adds. They bought the 2013 Shasta Flyte trailer for $18,000.
They were having trouble locating a space to rent out to store the trailer, until they found a gated lot in Lawrence off Pendleton Pike. "Tucked away, if you were driving past, it would be very hard to notice," Michelle explains.
On Thursday, Sgt. First Class Press got a call that the trailer had been stolen from the lot. "They cut the chain. They cut the lock. They broke into our hitch lock and took off with it," Michelle says. Lawrence Police are investigating. Another trailer was also listed as stolen the same day, that one belonging to the rental property owner.
The Army relocates the family every few years and they are hoping to get their trailer back or raise enough money to purchase a new one. Sgt. First Class Press says he hopes they find the person or people responsible so they can explain to his son why someone would steal their trailer. "It baffles me that anyone would just come along and decide it’s good enough for them to take," Sgt. First Class Press says.
The stolen trailer is a 2013 Shasta Flyte model 265 DB. It's a cream color with brown stripes. The license plate is an Illinois plate number 579989RT. If you've seen it or know who may have stolen the trailer, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS. Tips can me made anonymously.
