INDOT officials have released more footage of trucks hitting the Virginia Avenue bridge.

The bridge has been struck at least seven times since Monday morning.

In fact, more than 400 crashes have been reported since 1999. The most severe case happened in February, when an oversize semi carrying a cherry picker struck the Virginia Avenue Bridge. The crash forced crews to shut down the interstates for the weekend for emergency repairs.

A plan is now in place to lower the road beneath the bridge in hopes of preventing these types of incidents.

Construction crews will replace one-half mile of pavement for five northbound and five southbound I-65 and I-70 traffic lanes between the north and south splits in Indianapolis. Work is expected to begin this fall.
