INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– An Indianapolis animal rescue group is seeking help for a paralyzed puppy who needs surgery and some temporary wheels.
Thomas was removed from his home by Indianapolis Animal Care and Control due to lack of medical care. He’s 8-9 months old.
The rescue group, Needy Claws Sanctuary, says Thomas had some use of his left leg just before coming to them on July 6, but that was lost. They suspected he had a disc issue, but an MRI indicated he might have an infection. One of their veterinarians says a visible mass and elevated white cell count might point to lymphoma.
Needy Claws is a registered non-profit based in Indianapolis.
Surgery could relieve some pain and discomfort, and potentially allow him to walk again eventually.
The group says Thomas is in a foster home and is making friends with his new four-legged siblings and every human he comes in contact with.
“He will be receiving temporary puppy wheels to help him get around, as we know he just wants to run,” the rescue group said. “But, we hope he won’t need them someday.”
They are receiving a rescue rate of $1,500 for the surgery, and are asking for $2,500 to help cover the bill and provide ongoing care.
Thomas’ surgery is scheduled for July 28. They’re hoping to pay the bill in full that day.
Any additional funds will go towards the general funds of Needy Claws.
