INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 11, 2015) -- Indy's Mayor isn't joining the race for re-election, but he is competing in a bicycle race downtown on Saturday. Mayor Ballard is joining hundreds of other riders on the circle for the sixth-annual "Indy Criterium Cycling Race."
Organizers say the event is one of the largest of its kind in the midwest. Besides the bike rides and races, spectators can check-out food trucks and a BMX stunt show. All the money raised will go towards a bike program for kids.
"The proceeds from today’s event benefit Free Wheelin’ Community Bikes, a non-profit youth organization that mentors youth through bicycle mechanics" said Event Director Jennifer Cvar.
The event has raised more than $50,000 dollars for the organization throughout the years and organizers hope to raise another $20,000 or more on Saturday. For more information on the event, click here. For more on the non-profit, Free Wheelin' Community Bikes, click here.
