INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 19, 2016) – Drivers for Indy Snow Force will hit the road at 11 p.m. Tuesday ahead of projected snowfall overnight and early Wednesday morning.

DPW said 96 drivers will report through the overnight hours to keep roads as safe as possible. Indy Snow Force will stay active throughout the day Wednesday as drivers keep a close eye on the roads and developing weather conditions.

Twelve drivers worked overnight Monday to handle icy patches, bridges and overpasses that needed attention due to extremely cold temperatures in central Indiana.

DPW urges Hoosier drivers to give themselves extra time to get to work Wednesday morning. Drivers should also look out for Indy Snow Force and INDOT drivers and give them plenty of room to do their jobs.

“We still have yet to see a really big snow fall. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen, we’re still in the middle of January, this is Central Indiana, weather patterns can change,” said Jennfier Hashem, Indy DPW Spokesperson.

This time around drivers received a little help from snow storms past. Residual salt, already on the streets, made for easy preparation Tuesday night.

“We have a lot of residual salt that’s till on the roads because we’ve been activated a lot this past weekend we did see a couple snow instances where we were out on the roads. So we won’t be pretreating for this event, but we will be monitoring conditions very closely,” said Hashem.

Some Zionsville residents were preparing for the pending snowfall Tuesday night.

“I’ll get up and make sure my drive is clear for my wife and I to get my kids to school on time if there’s no delays and then I’ll head to the office early and make sure the sidewalks and stuff are cleared off and salted,” said Jim Wagoner.
