UPDATE (11/03/23): IMPD announced the arrest of 28-year-old Ja’que Mason for his alleged role in the shooting death of Abel Ramos-Utuy that occurred in the 5500 block of Georgetown Road on Oct. 21.

UPDATE (10/22/23): IMPD Detectives identified and interviewed the person they believed was responsible for the shooting that occurred near Georgetown Road. After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, the person was released.

IMPD indicated the the Georgetown Road shooting is still under investigation.


INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were killed in separate shootings early Saturday morning, according to police.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 1:30 a.m officers responded to a reported shooting in the 5500 block of Georgetown Road on Indy’s northwest side.

When officers arrived, they located a man who had been shot. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police later confirmed that 29-year-old Abel Ramos-Utuy died.

Minutes later, officers responded to a second shooting at the intersection of East 21st Street and North Emerson Avenue on Indy’s east side.

Police originally said they located a man who had been shot. The coroner’s office confirmed it was a teen boy who was later pronounced dead. He was identified as 15-year-old Edwin Simon-Osorio.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine overnight shooting victims’ exact causes of death, per IMPD. MCCO will release the victims’ names once their families have been notified of their deaths.
