2 found dead on Indy’s east side in what police believe was murder-suicide

Indianapolis Area Crime

INDIANAPOLIS — A man and woman were found dead on Indianapolis’ east side Friday morning in what police believe to be a murder-suicide, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police were called to the 6100 block of Nelson Place at about 10 a.m. for a welfare check

Upon arrival, officers were greeted by family members who were concerned because they hadn’t heard from their relatives in a couple of days.

Inside the residence police found two people dead with gunshot wounds.

IMPD said investigators believe it was a domestic-related incident that occurred within the last day or two. The man and woman were believed to have been in a relationship.

“Within the last couple of days, something tragic did happen, and unfortunately, you know, depression affects everybody,” said officer Genae Cook. “Everybody at one point or another might be suffering from depression, or you know, the holiday blues.

“It’s so real, and so there are many different mental outlets that we can reach out to within the hospitals, our doctors, anything to help subside that type of activity within ourselves. Reach out to anybody. As a community member when you’re experiencing this it’s so important to reach out so that tragedies like this don’t happen.”

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
