BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – An Indiana University student was arrested on a preliminary rape charge stemming from an incident that occurred on campus last Thursday.

An 18-year-old female student reported to authorities that Si Chen, 21, sexually assaulted inside the Tulip Tree Apartments.

The two students reportedly know each other and have been dating for a short time, according to IU Police Department Lt. Craig Munroe.

The victim told police Chen offered her an alcoholic beverage, but she declined the offer. She told police the assault happened shortly thereafter.

The victim received a sexual assault examination at  IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Investigators spoke with her at the hospital before speaking with Chen.

Chen was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail on a preliminary rape charge.
