Argument over biscuits and gravy leads to man’s fatal shooting; father arrested

Fred Fleener pleaded guilty to reckless homicide on May 30, 2017. His voluntary manslaughter charge was dismissed. He was sentenced to 1,095 days in jail, with 1,004 of those days being suspended and a 68-day jail credit.


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 14, 2015) – A father fatally shot his son on the city’s west side Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred in the 4900 block of West Raymond Street around 10:45 a.m.

“I heard one gun shot and then I heard another gun shot, and I was thinking…no there is no way,” says the suspect’s daughter Krystalen Fleener.

According to police, Fred Fleener III, 46, got into an argument with his son Fred Fleener IV, 22, inside their home over biscuits and gravy. During the argument, Fleener III shot his son in the chest.

The victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital , and he died while undergoing surgery.

The father was transported to the IMPDs Homicide Branch for questioning, and he was later arrested for involuntary manslaughter.

“I wish I could have my whole family back and that this would all go away. It feels like a nightmare,” says suspect’s wife Alicia Fleener.
