UPDATE: The Madison County Sheriff’s Department has released deputy bodycam footage showing the moments leading up to Jon Niccum firing at officers, which can be seen below.
FOX59/CBS4 has edited the footage to not show the actual moment Niccum fires the gun, although it was included in the video released by MCSD.
Additionally, we have edited out the moment before Brooke Badger opens the motel room door after deputies identify themselves as “front desk” and knock on the door.
As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, MCSD confirms that authorities are still searching for Badger. Original story below:

ANDERSON, Ind. — Madison County authorities are looking for a woman they say ran away from police custody after officers were shot at while serving a search warrant at an Anderson motel.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department said deputies were attempting to serve a search warrant around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for the arrest of two people staying at the Motel 6 on E. 59th Street in Anderson when the shooting occurred.
The shooting
The two people were identified by MCSD as 35-year-old Brooke Badger and 47-year-old Jon Robert Niccum. Authorities said Badger was wanted for felony violations of work release and parole while Niccum was wanted for felony work release violations and escape.
According to police, Badger opened her room door and was taken to the hallway. One deputy entered the room to confront a man, later identified as Niccum, lying on the bed in the room.
Niccum then pulled a firearm, MCSD said, and fired at the deputy who returned fire and took cover as both Niccum and Badger ran away. Authorities said they believe no bullets hit any officers or Niccum.
Niccum death
Anderson PD SWAT was called to the scene to assist and found that Niccum had run into a bathroom.
Inside the bathroom, they found Niccum dead “from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” MCSD said.
An autopsy will be performed on Niccum in the coming days, authorities said.

Badger’s escape
As the bullets were fired at deputies, MCSD said that Badger ran away from the motel on foot.
Anyone with knowledge of her location is being asked to call Madison County Central Dispatch at (765) 642-0221.

Additionally, a second man who was in the room with Badger and Niccum fled from the motel room window. Police are not identifying this second man at this time.
