INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 25, 2014) — A man is fighting for his life after he was shot by two burglars who broke in to his northwest side home.
It happened on Ashway Drive, near W. 34th Street and the 465 west loop. Friends of the man say he is at Eskenazi Health in critical condition, and are calling his 15-year-old daughter a hero for chasing the intruders outside, and fighting them in the front yard. The story is enough to rattle even the most solid nerves.
“We hear some noises outside, my wife told me, and I say no, no noises, and she start saying yes, there are noises,” said neighbor Francisco Morales.
Morales and his wife Norma think those noises were the beginnings of the home invasion.
“Everything started around 11 to 11:30 and then the police came until 2:40 they were here,” Norma said.
Police say two men broke in to the house through a back door while a mother and her eight-month-old child were inside. The woman’s husband, Fernando Heredia, and daughter came home a few minutes later.
“He saw some flash lights on the upper window, and he just run inside see what happened,” Morales said.
Heredia was shot in the upper part of his body, that’s when his daughter jumped in to action, fighting the burglars off in the front yard before they took off.
“Her daughter is like a hero cuz she fight with the guy, the guy with the gun. And we saw a big hole in the wall, too,” Morales said.
Police haven’t figured out who the guys are who broke in to the home, but neighbors say it was random. If you know anything about this, call police or remain anonymous by calling Central Indiana Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
