INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan police are investigating after a man was shot and killed near an apartment complex on the city’s near northeast side.

IMPD crews were called around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to the 2300 block of Beckwith Drive, the address for an apartment complex in the Martindale-Brightwood area, for shots fired.

Upon arrival to the area, IMPD said officers found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound in the complex’s parking lot. That man, IMPD said at 9:40 p.m., was listed in extremely critical condition at a local level 1 trauma center. Around 10 minutes later, he was pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified him as 34-year-old Randy Darrell Hinkle.

IMPD said homicide and aggravated assault detectives were canvassing the area looking to speak with witnesses and gather suspect information. It is unknown what led up to the shooting and whether Hinkle was affiliated with the apartment complex or not.
