A recent homicide victim may have been lured to his death through Facebook, court documents show.
James Johnson, 16, was fatally shot at the playground in the Hawthorne Place Apartments on July 8.
According to police, Johnson received a Facebook message asking him to meet a suspected gang member at the playground an hour before his death.
Witnesses told police they saw three teens talking with Johnson shortly before several gunshots rang out.
The juvenile suspect charged in Johnson’s death reportedly posted a picture of the slain Johnson on Facebook with a caption that read, “we put the (expletive) in the mulch.”
Sources have told Fox59 that Johnson was killed because he had information about who killed Monquize Edwards on July 4.
Eric Bonner has been charged in connection with Edwards’ murder.
The juvenile suspect in the Johnson case was being held in the Marion County Juvenile Center on an unrelated charge when murder charges were filed. It’s not clear if the juvenile suspect will be waived to adult court.
