INDIANAPOLIS — A man was killed in a shooting on the far east side of Indianapolis Monday evening.
At approximately 5:54 p.m., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a person shot at 10104 John Jay Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a person with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.
In a media notification sent at 5:59 p.m., IMPD initially reported that the person who was shot was in critical condition. In an update sent at 6:15 p.m., police announced that the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as 20-year-old Keontae Imauni Walls.
Captain Don Weilhammer with IMPD indicated that the shooting occurred near an outdoor common area by an apartment complex. Weilhammer said he could not confirm whether or not IMPD has apprehended a suspect related to the shooting at this time.
IMPD later indicated the initial incident happened at 10000 Montery Road, and the victim was driven to the John Jay Drive address. Investigators are asking residents who live nearby to review their security cameras to see if they captured any images or videos around 6 p.m.
