CARMEL, Ind. – A stretch of Westfield Boulevard closed early Friday morning for an investigation into reported gunfire.

According to the Carmel Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1:40 a.m. Friday after receiving multiple calls about shots being fired along Westfield Boulevard near 116th Street.

Reports of gunshots continued to come through down to 96th Street, police said. Responding officers found numerous bullet casings along Westfield Boulevard.

For a time, Carmel police shut down the road, as evidenced by a social media post sent around 4:30 a.m. Police later reopened the street at 6:07 a.m.

Based on the early investigation, police said it appeared someone was firing shots from a vehicle heading southbound on Westfield Boulevard.
