Infant from Indianapolis killed by dog in Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio. (July 21, 2014)– Police in Dayton, Ohio say a 7-month-old infant from Indianapolis was attacked and killed by a dog.

Officers were called to a home on Riverside Dr. around 12:30 p.m. Sunday after a 911 caller claimed that a baby died.

According to FOX45 in Dayton, A family spokesman, the Rev. Victor Lee, says the grandmother was watching the child for the day when the dog leaped a gate and attacked. The woman tried to get the dog away from the boy but was unsuccessful.

The Montgomery County Coroner in Ohio has identified the infant as Jonathon Quarles from Indianapolis.

Family members told police the dog was a family pet and had not been previously vicious. Officers are trying to determine why the pitbull attacked the infant. The dog was taken away by animal control officers.
