Intersection and railroad crossing improvements coming to Anderson and Muncie

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 15, 2016) — The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded a $530,000 contract for various intersection and railroad crossing improvements at four locations in Anderson and Muncie.

The contract includes:

  • Installing new traffic signals featuring yellow flashing left-turn arrow capabilities, lengthening left-turn lanes and center median on State Road 9/Scatterfield Road at the intersection of State Road 236/53rd Street in Anderson.
  • Installing new sidewalks and curb ramps at the Norfolk-Southern railroad crossing State Road 32 near the intersection of John Street in Anderson.
  • Constructing concrete center median on State Road 9/Scatterfield Road near two CSX railroad crossings south of State Road 232/Mounds Road in Anderson.
  • Installing advanced warning signage near the Norfolk-Southern railroad crossing the Muncie bypass (State Road 67) between Cowan Road and Walnut Street.

The railroad crossing work is in preparation for additional improvements to be installed by railroad operators as part of INDOT’s office of public safety highway-rail crossing program.

E & B Paving, Inc. will begin work in June and should have the  projects completed by October.  Specific schedules and traffic restrictions will be announced for each location before work begins
