Five nurses were badly hurt after a golf cart rolled over in Morgan County Thursday. It happened around 1 p.m. at Bradford Woods Park, an outdoor center operated by Indiana University.

At last check, one of the nurses was in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Another was listed in fair condition while the three others injured were listed in good condition.

The nurses are part of a staff that helps out with “medically specific” summer camps for kids at the park.

Investigators from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said the nurses were on the golf cart coming fast down a hill. For some reason, the driver lost control and all five of those nurses were ejected.

“We have medical staff for all of our camps, and some of them were from Riley Hospital (For Children at IU Health), and others were local nurses that we hire for the summer,” said Shay Dawson, director of Bradford Woods.

Dawson also says the five who were on the cart were hurt, one so badly that Lifeline had to be dispatched. The other four were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

As investigators try to figure out what went wrong, the staff is has heavy hearts.

“These are staff we work with on a daily basis, and, the camp community is very close knit and everybody is here obviously to serve the kids. It’s just terrible that this happened,” said Dawson.

The investigation in to how this happened is being led by the Indiana University police department.
