PLAINFIELD, Ind.- Police are investigating an act of vandalism at the Islamic Society of North America which left the center’s sign riddled with bullet holes. Last week, authorities say workers noticed the sign had been shot multiple times. This is the same center that was targeted by vandalism using graffiti last February.

“It is frightening,” said Farial Khatri, who works at the center. “My first thought was thank God they didn’t come any closer to the building.”

Khatri says they will increase their security following the incident and will have an armed officer at their services this week. Police aren’t yet sure what kind of gun was used in the vandalism.

Not surprisingly, some who worship at the center are scared and on edge. However, others say it’s just a sad sign of the times.

“Its unfair, but you know what you’re going to have to live with it and I’m sure the authorities will take care of it,” said Abraham Eljibry. “So I don’t think it’s something to worry about at all.”

If you have any information about the incident, you’re asked to call the Plainfield Police Department at 317-838-3565.
