INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An Indiana State Police trooper is injured after a crash on EB I-70 at Emerson Avenue.
ISP Sgt. Perrine says one trooper was pulled over on the ramp after getting a flat tire, and Trooper Andrew Atwell pulled over to assist. While Atwell was still in his car, a Ford F-250 going too fast for the conditions lost control and hit his cruiser.
Atwell was awake and talking while an ambulance took him to the hospital, but he has severe back pain. He is being checked out at Eskenazi Hospital. Perrine says he’s been with ISP for two years, and this is the fourth time he’s been in his cruiser when it was hit along the road.
“He was out with something else when somebody probably going too fast for the conditions ran right into him,” Perrine said.
The driver of the F-250 was given a ticket for failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle.
Perrine emphasized that anyone on the road right now should slow down.
