JAY COUNTY, Ind.– A Jay County judge was suspended after he was charged with battery against the Dunkirk police chief.

According to court documents, Judge Tommy Phillips was in a meeting with Chief Dane Mumbower and Dunkirk Mayor Gene Ritter at the police station.

Chief Mumbower said he became frustrated with Phillips, who is his uncle. The court documents show Phillips eventually pushed him into a wall.

Phillips is suspended from the city court with pay while the case is investigated.
