JAY COUNTY, Ind. (October 31, 2015) – A 16-year-old Jay County boy was killed while sitting on his couch watching television when an alleged drunk driver crashed into his home.
According to Jay County Coroner Jason White, the crash happened Friday night in Pennville, Indiana.
Seth Corwin, 16, was sitting in the living room of his home watching television. His 10-year-old step-brother was also in the room on a different couch.
Just before 10 p.m., a truck crashed into the home, killing Corwin instantly.
The driver of the truck, later identified as Bryce Paxson, had a BAC of .175, said police. Paxson was arrested on a preliminary charge of OWI causing death, and he is currently being held in the Jay County Jail. Paxson was not injured in the crash.
Corwin’s step-brother had minor injuries, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Corwin’s mother was also in the house at the time of the accident, but she was not injured.
“In my 18 years on the fire department and 14 years with EMS, this crash ranks among the top three tragic incidents I’ve responded to,” said Coroner White.
Corwin was a member of the Jay County High School Marching band, and on Saturday his classmates filled the band’s Facebook page with memories of Corwin.
“I will always remember Seth’s smile and how he always seemed to be happy,” said Dawn Alicea.
