KOKOMO, Ind. – A Kokomo teacher is in custody after an investigation into child pornography.

The Kokomo Police Department said Brian Jakes was taken into custody Friday after being released by an Indianapolis Hospital.

The arrest comes after an investigation dating back to February 3. The investigation was related to the possession and distribution of child pornography. The department does not believe that Jakes possessed or distributed any photographs/videos involving any local children in the community.

Jakes faces four counts of child exploitation and nine counts of possession of child pornography.

Kokomo School Corporation confirmed Jakes was employed by the school district, but stated he has since been placed on leave.

Kokomo schools did not clarify which school Jakes taught in, but an online search reveals Jakes was previously listed as a teacher at Elwood Haynes Elementary before his listing was recently deleted.

“No further comment or information can be provided by Kokomo School Corporation officials since this is an active investigation and a personnel matter,” stated Kokomo School Corporation in a release.

“Officials encourage anyone with additional information concerning this situation to contact the Kokomo Police Department,” they added.

The case remains under investigation as of the time of this report.
