KOKOMO, Ind. (May 12, 2014) — The city of Kokomo is set to announce a plan Monday to pour millions of dollars into its downtown for flood mitigation and a new development project.
While the specific nature of the development is remaining under wraps until an 11 a.m. news conference, Mayor Greg Goodnight told FOX59 the financial breakdown of the plans.
A 14-acre flood-prone area of downtown will receive $2.5 million as phase one of the city’s flood mitigation plan, he said. The remaining $9 million will go to the soon-to-be-revealed development.
“Communities, just like people [with] their businesses and homes, need to continue to update and upgrade and reinvest in themselves,” Goodnight said. “This is no different for our community and so, long term, these are the kinds of capital project that make life better here in our city.”
The announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the council chambers at Kokomo’s City Hall, 100 South Union Street.
