LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Nov. 6, 2015)– A Lafayette woman who lived with her dead husband’s body for nine months pleaded guilty Friday.
Ila Solomon, 55, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of failing to report a dead body and unlawful disposal.
According to the Tippecanoe County coroner, Solomon’s husband, 88-year-old Gerald “Scooter” Gavan died around July 15, 2013. His body wasn’t found until May 2014.
Solomon said Gavan wanted to be outside after dying because he wanted a sky burial, which is an ancient funeral practice where birds dispose of a corpse.
She claimed she didn’t report the death to fulfill her husband’s unusual burial request.
Her sentencing is set for December 21.
