HAMILTON COUNTY (Jan. 20, 2014) – A Ball State University bus caught fire Monday afternoon, slowing traffic along I-69 in Hamilton County.

INDOT traffic cameras showed smoke coming from I-69 near 126th Street/mile marker 208 around 12:30 p.m. The bus from Ball State University was on I-69 southbound and headed to the airport to pick up some BSU students. The driver–who was the only person on the bus–noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. He pulled over and called 911.

Investigators said the driver got out safely. Crews from the Noblesville Fire Department and Fishers Fire and Emergency Services quickly extinguished the fire. The bus is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fishers fire officials said the incident is still being cleaned up, and that traffic would remain slow in both directions along I-69.
