INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Firefighters rescued two workers who were trapped on the side of the OneAmerica Tower downtown Wednesday.

Crews were called to 1 American Square around 1 p.m. The men were trapped in a window-washing rig that malfunctioned.

The Indianapolis Fire Department sent its rope tactical rescue team to the scene. Firefighters weighed whether to pull the window washers to the roof using ropes or remove a window to get them back inside.

Fire crews got the workers back inside through a window by about 1:40 p.m.

Both men work for S&K Building Services. No injuries were reported.

“They were very calm,” said IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith. “They weren’t flustered at all by this turn of events today. They said ‘this is what we do.'”

Photos show the two window washers calmly waiting to be rescued by firefighters. The window washers were even using their cell phones while waiting out the process.

Still no word on what cause the rig to stop working Wednesday afternoon.
