INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A man died after a shooting Tuesday night outside a Family Dollar on the east side of Indianapolis.

IMPD was called to investigate the shooting near E. 21st St. and N. Arlington Ave. at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound in a 2006 black Chevy Monte Carlo. Police do not believe anyone else was in the vehicle with the victim. The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 28-year-old Cory Miller.

Police say Miller was rushed to IU Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said two men were spotted leaving the scene in a black SUV.

“At this point in time detectives are checking the cameras to see if the cameras were functioning and if the cameras were functioning at the gas station across the street and along the strip mall," said Capt. Harold Turner with IMPD. "The store was open and everyone was inside so it appears no witnesses at this time.”

Investigators said it appeared the person responsible fired several shots from outside the passenger side, hitting Miller at least once. The coroner's office said Miller had apparent gunshot injuries.

This marks the 142nd murder in Indianapolis in 2017. The year's criminal homicide rate is fast approaching the record set in 2016 which ended the year with 149 murders.
