INDIANAPOLIS – A man is in custody after running onto the governor’s property while fleeing police Monday night.

According to Indiana State Police, a man was being arrested by IMPD officers after an OVWI investigation. While officers were handcuffing him, they say the suspect ran from them.

A short time later, the man was found by police when they noticed he had one handcuff on.

During the course of the investigation, it appeared the suspect ran onto the governor’s property near the intersection of 46th and Meridian streets.

The suspect was taken into custody by State Police and Secret Service and placed under arrest by IMPD.

Gov. Mike Pence has been under the protection of the Secret Service since he was selected as Donald Trump’s running mate.

According to his schedule, Pence was not in the residence at the time of the incident. He spent Monday campaigning in Ohio.

According to officials, officers do not believe the suspect ran onto the governor’s property on purpose. It is unclear if he will face additional charges for running onto the property.
