JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (January 20, 2016) – A Greenwood man died Tuesday after falling into an icy pond.

Investigators said the man—identified as Brian Persinger, 43—was visiting a home that was under construction on County Road 350 North just northeast of Franklin.

Persinger’s wife went to the home after she couldn’t reach him. She found his truck running in the driveway but couldn’t locate him. She called police.

Investigators found footprints leading to a pond behind the home. The SCUBA team from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources went into the water in an effort to locate Persinger. They eventually found his body in the icy water.

Police believe Persinger’s dogs may have gotten out on the ice, and he may have been trying to help them. The dogs have not been found, police said.
