INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Another shooting has put an Indianapolis man in the hospital. Police say that victim, a man in his twenties, was shot at an apartment complex on the north side Saturday evening and is now in critical condition. A female victim was also shot in the hand during this incident.
Police don’t have many details to go on but are asking for the public’s help, as investigators piece together the latest gun-related crime in Indianapolis this week.
“Our homicide and [aggravated] assault detectives are arriving…on the scene,” said IMPD Captain Michael Elder, “crime lab just got here to process the scene.”
Police say they found many shell casings scattered around a dark-colored van.
“It’s serious, you know not only is it broad daylight, but had it been a few degrees warmer we’d have had kids out here,” said Elder.
At this point there’s no word yet on who opened fire, or why.
“We’re talking to neighbors that have come forward and letting us know what they saw and heard, and hopefully we can get some good information for this,” said Elder.
This shooting continues a week already marred by gun violence across the county. Since last Saturday, five people have been shot to death, including one-year-old Malaysia Robson, whose death sparked outcries across the area.
Now as yet another victim lies in a hospital bed, their body torn apart by bullets, authorities are calling for change.
“Guns are not the solution,” said Elder, “obviously the way to handle a situation is not to pull out a gun on somebody and start using it.”
Police are asking for any information about this incident or any of the shootings which happened this week. If you know anything you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS or IMPD.
