ALEXANDRIA, Ind.–Madison County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a deadly crash Saturday evening.

Around 5:20 p.m. deputies were sent to a single vehicle crash on State Road 9 approximately 5 miles north of Alexandria.

When officers arrived they found a 1991 GMC truck had crashed into a driveway culvert on the east side of the road.

An ambulance rushed the male driver to Community Hospital in Anderson where he was pronounced dead. The Madison County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Zachariah D. McKenzie, who died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

According to a witness, McKenzie appeared to be driving erratically. McKenzie didn’t suffer a medical episode prior to the crash, the coroner said, and investigators were awaiting results of toxicology tests.
