A near north side neighborhood received a $600,000 grant Monday.
The Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corporation will use the money for repairs on owner-occupied homes and renovating vacant homes.
So far, more than $1 million has been invested in the area near Fall Creek Parkway and College Avenue. The goal is to decrease crime, increase residents and transform vacant lots into parks.
“Being able to offer these funds to Mapleton-Fall Creek to fix up some of these properties will not only help those properties, but also the entire block and the entire neighborhood,” said Amy Nelson with the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana.
The grant money comes from a legal settlement with the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana.
