INDIANAPOLIS – You may notice a big change at the Marion County Fair when it opens in a few days.

The iconic concert stage has been demolished. The stage hosted a variety of events since being built in the late 70s, but hasn’t seen a concert in about two years. The building was inspected after the Indiana State Fair stage collapse—and found to be unsafe.

Fair officials said they have a long-term plan to replace the stage, a process that could take five to ten years.

“We are going to go to one of the universities here in the state of Indiana and do some visualizations and land use planning along with a new design of the fairgrounds,” said Jack Haefling with the Marion County Fairgrounds.

The fair kicks off June 21 and runs through June 29.
