INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 7, 2016) – Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Thursday that the city’s Carrier Task Force will establish a $1.2 million fund to help workers affected by the relocation of Carrier’s Indianapolis facility.
The money matches the amount accepted by Carrier and its parent company United Technologies Corporation as part of a tax incentive package in 2011.
“Whether through job-training scholarships or other ideas that come from those whose lives have been forever changed, I am confident these funds will make an impact as we work to lift up our neighbors,” said Mayor Hogsett.
Specific plans for the money have not been announced, but the mayor says a number of different organizations have agreed to partner with the city to offer support. Those partners include the United Steelworkers, EmployIndy, IUPUI, Vincennes University and a number of non-profit groups.
Governor Pence says Carrier and United Technologies Electronic Controls also repaid state and local incentives totaling more than $380,000.
