INDIANAPOLIS (May 20,2015)- Memorial Day weekend marks the official start of the summer travel season.
Millions of Americans are expected to driver to their destination this Memorial Day weekend, and construction in central Indiana isn’t expected to slow them down.
Drivers heading north should give themselves some extra travel time if they plan on using US-31, construction along the road between Carmel and Westfield will slow drivers down.
Further south, work on I-65 between Southport and Franklin will likely cause some backups as well for Memorial Day travelers.
AAA projects that nearly 40 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during Memorial Day Weekend.
That’s the highest travel volume during the holiday weekend in ten years.
The national average price for a gallon of gas is $2.74 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.
In Indiana, it’s slightly lower at $2.73 a gallon.
It’s estimated that close to three million Americans will fly to their Memorial Day destination.
