INDIANAPOLIS — A multi-vehicle crash on I-465 claimed the life of a Brownsburg man early Sunday on the southwest side, police said.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-465 near Mann Road on the southwest side of Indianapolis. It was reported that two people were trapped in the wreckage and both were unresponsive, ISP said.

Upon arrival, Indy first responders got a female out of the wreckage and began first aid. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Brandon Machingura of Brownsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe a 2018 Dodge Charger driven by Machingura was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the side of a semi while changing lanes. The collision caused the Charger to spin out of control into a concrete median, ISP said.

According to police, several bystanders stopped and began giving first aid to the victims until EMS arrived. The far right westbound lanes were closed for nearly three hours for cleanup, according to INDOT.

The crash, ISP said, remains under investigation. The Marion County Coroner’s Office is also investigating.
